The 1Protection.AI Slack integration brings advanced data leak protection directly into your team's Slack communication workflows. It continuously scans messages and file uploads in real time to help prevent sensitive information from being shared unintentionally, while allowing teams to collaborate without disruption.

The integration operates quietly in the background, enforcing your organization's security policies and ensuring that all potential data risks are captured and made visible to administrators.

How the Slack Integration Works

After the Slack app is installed in your workspace, it automatically joins all public channels. From that moment on, every message and file shared in those channels is scanned according to your active security policies.

For private channels, Slack requires that the app be explicitly invited by a channel member before it can access and scan content. Due to Slack platform limitations, the app cannot be added to direct messages (DMs) or multi-person direct messages (MPIMs), and content in those conversations is not accessible for scanning.

Only messages and files in channels where the app is present are monitored.

Detection, Logging, and User Feedback

When a policy violation is detected in a message or file, the event is processed immediately. The violation is logged in real time in the 1Protection.AI administrator dashboard, ensuring a complete and up-to-date audit trail.

At the same time, the user who created the content is notified directly in Slack via a direct message from the 1Protection.AI app. This notification provides transparency and helps users understand why the content was flagged.

If the user later edits or deletes the original message or file, the system automatically reacts. The Slack app updates the user via follow-up messages or reactions in the app DM, and the corresponding violation entry in the administrator dashboard is updated to reflect the new state. This keeps both users and administrators aligned on the current status of each incident.

Policy-Driven Automated Actions

Depending on how your security policies are configured, 1Protection.AI can automatically take action when a violation is detected. Content can be redacted, removed, or left unchanged while still being logged for visibility.

These actions are applied consistently across all Slack channels where the app is present, ensuring predictable and policy-driven handling of sensitive information. Even when no visible change is made to the content, the violation is still recorded and remains available for review in the administrator dashboard.

Centralized Visibility and Control

All Slack-related violations are collected and displayed in the 1Protection.AI administrator dashboard. Security and compliance teams can monitor incidents in real time, review historical data, and track how violations evolve when users update or delete content.

This centralized view supports compliance requirements and enables proactive risk management across the entire Slack workspace.

How to Configure the Slack Integration

Before using the Slack integration, an administrator must complete the initial setup.

  • Log in to the 1Protection.AI dashboard.

  • Navigate to Configured Integrations > Slack.

  • Follow the steps outlined in the Integration Setup Guide to install the Slack app.

  • Ensure that the appropriate security policies are created and active, as described in the Policy Guide.

Once installed, the app automatically joins all public channels.

Managing Channel Access

To achieve full coverage, administrators should ensure that the app is invited to all relevant private channels. If the app is not present in a channel, messages and files in that channel cannot be scanned and no automated actions can be applied.

If the app is later removed from a channel, scanning stops for that channel, but any previously detected violations remain visible in the administrator dashboard for auditing and review.
