A Violation occurs when 1Protection detects a data leak. The Violations management system displays detailed information about all Violations recorded by 1Protection across various integrations, including the API.

  • Finding: A Finding refers to an individual instance of a data leak incident detected during a scan.

  • Violation: A Violation is an incident of data leakage detected while scanning a message, document, file, or other sources.

When 1Protection scans data, a single violation can include multiple findings. For example, if you scan a message and it contains three pieces of sensitive information (such as 1 API key and 2 IBANs), each piece is called a Finding. Since 1Protection scans the entire message at once, these 3 Findings are recorded together as a single Violation.
